He was my uncleโs friend, and I was too young for him.
But in the heat of the moment, against the wall in a darkened hallway of an illicit
club, none of those things mattered. It was just one night of giving in to what we
both wanted.
I never expected to see him two years later, sitting across me during a family
dinner, encouraging me to intern at his business for my college project.
On day one we both agree that repeating that night would be a mistake. But itโs a
mistake we canโt help but make again and again.
The rules are simple. We canโt tell my uncle. We have to be content with our hotel
rendezvous. And we wonโt fall in love.
But we both know weโre liars.

I carefully twisted the knob, closing my eyes and sending a quick wish that it
wasnโt locked. When it fully turned, I bit my lip to hold back the smile trying to
break free. I pushed the door open quickly and stepped in, shutting it softly
behind me.
Kentโs eyes widened over his shoulder as he rinsed his hands at the sink.
Leaning my back against the door, I stared for a moment, taking in his lean body,
his dark hair sprinkled with bits of gray. I noticed his beard was trimmed and
sporting more gray than it had when Iโd last seen him. If anything, it made him
sexier. โHi,โ I whispered. My intentions were innocent when I stepped through the door,
but if he were to ask, Iโd do whatever he wanted; right here with my parents only
a room over.
